How the import works

There is no magic — there is a process. Here it is in full, step by step, with what we do and what you approve.

N&D Auto imports cars into Bulgaria from auctions and dealers in the USA, Canada and South Korea, and on request from Europe. We find the car, bid on the customer’s behalf up to a limit they approve in writing, and handle shipping, customs, VAT and registration through to Bulgarian plates.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the import take?

It depends where from. From the USA and Canada: usually 45–90 days from winning the auction to a registered car — ocean freight is 25–35 days, inland transport 5–10 days, customs plus registration about another week, and the spread comes down to the port, the season and how long the car waits to be loaded. Timelines from South Korea are comparable. Europe is far quicker — usually 2–3 weeks from choosing the car to registration, because there is no ocean leg and no customs.

Do you import from Europe as well?

Yes. Alongside the USA, Canada and South Korea we import from any country in Europe — Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, France, Austria, Sweden and the rest. We work with European dealers, trade platforms and online auctions. Buying within the EU is simpler and faster: no import duty and no customs clearance, and transport to Bulgaria is typically 7–14 days. Give us the make, model, year and budget and we start looking.

What is the final price — are there hidden fees?

No. Before we bid you receive an itemised breakdown: auction price, auction fees, inland transport, ocean freight, insurance, duty (10%), VAT (20%), customs brokerage, registration and our commission. That is the price you pay. The only variable is the hammer price itself — and it can never exceed the limit you approved.

Can I buy a damaged car?

Yes, and it is often the smartest option. A car with light front-end auction damage can work out 30–40% cheaper than the same car undamaged. We repair it in our own workshop with OEM parts and show you photos at every stage. You always get a full damage report before we bid.

How does payment work?

In two instalments: a deposit when you approve the car, and the balance after the auction is won, before loading. Payments to the auction go by bank transfer in your name, so you own the car from day one. Duty and VAT are paid at customs clearance.

What is duty-free import?

A Bulgarian citizen returning to live in Bulgaria after more than 12 months abroad may import their personal car free of duty and VAT. The conditions are specific — you must have owned the car for at least 6 months before relocating. We handle the whole procedure; call us and we will check whether you qualify.

Does the car come with a warranty?

Imported cars are sold without a factory warranty, unless the manufacturer honours it internationally (some Korean and premium marques do). We give you the full history and technical condition so you know exactly what you are buying. Cars repaired in our workshop carry a warranty on the repair itself.

What if I can't find a car in your current stock?

Our listings are only what we already have or what is on its way. If you are after a specific model, tell us — we usually find it at auction within 1–3 weeks. Use the search request form, or just call.

Can I see the car before buying?

Not in person, but we offer an independent on-site inspection: an inspector goes through a 200-point protocol, photographs the underside, checks for corrosion and runs diagnostics. You get a photo and video report before we bid. It is charged separately and is well worth it on more expensive cars.
